Roland Barthes wrote about the unique capacity of a family photograph to wound those with relations to the subjects of the photograph. For this reason maybe they should be kept in shoeboxes and bedside tables. These photos were sent to me, family photos that already existed online, digitally or on some cloud database, taken out of the shoebox and existing publically as data. These works were considering how to return these photos that had been taken from the shoebox, and return them to an object, a relic.
